Small, Precise Changes Planned Around Your Natural Smile
At Dual Arc Dental, we provide tooth contouring and enamel shaping for patients who want to refine a small chip, uneven edge, pointed tooth, or slight difference in tooth length. Our dentists evaluate the tooth in the context of your full smile before recommending any enamel adjustment. Tooth contouring may not always be an option, but our doctors will evaluate whether it may be appropriate for your smile.

WHAT TO EXPECT
We start with the specific detail you would like to change, then evaluate whether conservative enamel shaping can reasonably achieve that improvement.
We begin by identifying the chip, uneven edge, tooth length, pointed area, or other small detail that is bothering you.
Our dentist examines how the tooth relates to the neighboring teeth, available enamel, and your bite before recommending any adjustment.
When contouring is appropriate, we conservatively reshape the selected area while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
The enamel is smoothed and polished, and the final contour is checked against the surrounding teeth and the rest of your smile.
CONSERVATIVE PLANNING
Tooth contouring, also called enamel shaping or enameloplasty, removes a small amount of outer enamel. Because that change cannot be reversed, our dentists first check the tooth, available enamel, neighboring teeth, and your bite before deciding how much reshaping, if any, makes sense.
We evaluate the tooth, available enamel, neighboring teeth, and your bite before recommending reshaping
Our approach is to correct only what needs attention while keeping the natural tooth as intact as possible
Subtle contouring may improve symmetry without adding a restoration
If the desired change would require more enamel removal than we consider appropriate, we will recommend another option instead

Just wanted to do a shout out to Dual Arc Dental! I stuck with them after the previous owners sold through and happy I did. They have proven they are caring and understanding whether my needs have been small or very patient with me not only during my visits but with any queries in regards to the insurance.

SMALL SMILE REFINEMENTS
Tooth contouring may be considered when a small change to the outer enamel can improve the balance, smoothness, or proportion of a tooth.
If one tooth looks slightly longer than the teeth beside it, we can assess whether conservative reshaping can improve its proportion without adding a restoration.
When a minor chip or rough edge is limited to enamel, we may be able to smooth the area and create a cleaner, more even outline.
A sharp corner, pointed canine, or irregular contour can sometimes be refined so the tooth blends more naturally with the surrounding smile.
Once teeth are aligned, small differences in edge shape or length can become easier to notice. We can evaluate whether contouring would provide the finishing touch.
Because enamel does not grow back after it is removed, every proposed adjustment is carefully evaluated before treatment.
THE RIGHT TREATMENT FOR THE RIGHT CHANGE
Some cosmetic concerns need material added, some need teeth moved, and others can be improved with careful reshaping. During your consultation, we help you understand which approach fits the concern you want to change.

Other Cosmetic Options
Addition · Alignment · Broader changes
Reduction
Contouring can shorten, soften, or smooth a small amount of enamel when reduction is needed.
When tooth structure needs to be added rather than removed, another treatment may be more appropriate.
Addition
Contouring removes small amounts of enamel and does not add tooth structure.
Dental bonding may be recommended when a chip, gap, or shape difference needs tooth-colored material added.
Position
Contouring changes the shape of a tooth but does not move its position.
Clear aligners may be recommended when crowding, rotation, or spacing is the main reason a tooth looks out of place.
Broader Changes
Contouring is generally suited to subtle changes involving small areas of enamel.
When several teeth need more noticeable changes in shape, proportion, or appearance, other cosmetic options may be discussed.
The goal is not to make contouring fit every concern. We recommend the treatment that matches what your tooth actually needs.
LOCAL COSMETIC CARE
Our dentists do not look at an uneven edge or long tooth in isolation. We consider how the proposed change will fit your entire smile before recommending treatment. Dual Arc Dental is located at 1248 FM 78, Suite 105, Schertz, TX 78154. We welcome patients from Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, and Universal City.
If a chipped, uneven, pointed, or slightly long tooth keeps catching your attention, call (210) 375-5256 or schedule a consultation to find out whether conservative contouring or another cosmetic option may be appropriate.

Find answers to common questions about tooth contouring, enamel shaping, treatment suitability, sensitivity, cost, and insurance.
Yes. Tooth contouring, enamel shaping, tooth reshaping, and enameloplasty are commonly used to describe conservative reshaping of the outer enamel.
We typically evaluate contouring for concerns such as slightly uneven tooth length, small enamel chips, rough edges, pointed contours, and minor shape differences.
If the difference is small and enough healthy enamel is available, we may be able to carefully reduce the length so the tooth fits more naturally with neighboring teeth.
A very small edge chip may sometimes be smoothed through contouring. If tooth structure needs to be added back, we may recommend bonding instead.
Yes, in selected cases. Once teeth are aligned, differences in tooth length or edge shape can become more noticeable. We can evaluate whether contouring would provide an appropriate finishing adjustment.
Because reshaping is limited to the outer enamel, many patients tolerate minor contouring well. We evaluate the tooth and any existing sensitivity before recommending treatment.
No. Natural enamel does not grow back once removed. This is why our dentists keep reshaping conservative and carefully assess how much enamel is available.
Temporary sensitivity is possible. We consider your existing sensitivity and the amount of enamel that would need to be adjusted before proceeding.
Contouring changes tooth shape, not tooth position. If rotation, crowding, or spacing is causing the concern, we may recommend clear aligner treatment.
Usually not. Contouring removes enamel rather than adding tooth structure. Depending on the gap, bonding, veneers, or orthodontic treatment may be more appropriate.
They address different needs. We use contouring when a small amount of enamel needs to be reduced. When material needs to be added to improve shape or replace a small missing area, bonding may be more appropriate.
Potentially. We evaluate each tooth and the overall smile before deciding whether reshaping several teeth would be appropriate.
The enamel removed during contouring does not grow back, so the shape change remains. Natural teeth can still experience normal wear, chips, or other dental changes over time.
Cost depends on how many teeth are being treated and whether contouring is performed alone or alongside another treatment. We provide a treatment-specific estimate after examining your smile. You can also review our finance and insurance information.
Coverage depends on your dental plan and the reason treatment is being performed. Our team can help you review your benefits and available finance and insurance options.
